Barries to the Successful Integration of ITC
I read the article " Barriers to the successful integration of ITC in teaching and learning environment: A review of the literature" which was written by Khalid Abdullah Bingimlas. Through my reading to the Journal, I found that there are two types of barriers that might stop the integration of technology inside the classroom which are teachers- level barriers and the school- level barriers.
Teachers-level barriers
- lack of teachers confidence. Begges (2000) asserted that teachers' "fear of failure" caused a lack of confidence. Teachers feel afraid to deal with technological tools because they are afraid that they will fail in using them, so their students will laugh at them. some of them are afraid of wasting students' time because a technical problem might happen and they will not be able to fix and deal with the situation.
- lack of competence. Newhouse (2002) found that many teachers lacked the knowledge and skills to use computers and were not enthusiastic about the changes and integration of supplementary learning associated with bringing computers into their teaching practices.
- Resistance to change & negative attitude. The integration of technology requires some changes and some teachers are unable to cope with these changes, that is why they resist to use technology in their classrooms. Some belief that ICT has no benefits.
Schools- level barriers
- lack of time. Some teachers argued that they do not have enough time to integrate technology in their classes because of schedule. they do not have time to plan for technology lesson. moreover, they are not trained to plan technology lessons. The maximum lesson time is 45 mins so it is very difficult for teachers to manage themselves within this time. they need time to prepare the tools and then make them work, this will take around 10 to 15 mins.
- lack of effective training. Most of the teachers complained that they did not receive any training on the use of these tools so how they are going to use them.
- lack of accessibility. Some teachers complained how difficult it is to access the computer labs inside the school or to access the resources in the internet. The poor network prevent them from download electronic videos, lessons or presentations. Also the conflict between their lessons and the computer labs schedule. They are unable to use the computer labs or LRC in the school
The following chart demonstrates some of barriers to ICT integration
Integration of Technology in my school
As a senior teacher, I also encourage my teachers to integrate technology in their lessons. Some teachers welcomed the idea while others did not welcome the idea. some teachers used interactive PowerPoint lessons and one teacher only use the interactive board. others teachers were reluctant to use it because they did receive any training. In fact all the teachers in the school refused to use it because they were not trained to use it.
Solutions:
- training: Teachers need training on how to plan for technology lessons and how to use some technological tools
- Training must be online to overcome the problem of transportation, busy and crowded schedule in the schools. It will help teachers to work any time and from any place.
- There must be a kind of cooperation between LRC center at school and teachers. The school administration should manage the timetable accordingly.

Using technology in classroom
I read the article "Using Multiple Technologies to Teach
Writing", I really liked the ideas represented in this article regarding
the use of technology in writing process. I always use technology inside my
classroom such as in reading, model lessons, and presentations done by
students. But I have never thought of using it in writing process.
This is the first time I heard of the term "Textured Literacy" which refers to the ability to use, combine print, spoken, visual and digital processes in composing a piece of writing. When it comes to writing exercise, I mostly ask my students to write on a piece of paper using pencils. With the use of technology in writing, students can use word processors where they can use different formats such as bolding, Italicizing, underlining, and using bullets. Using word processors in writing will make students produce clear, clean, well organized piece without ignoring the fact of that errors will be less in this case.

I also like the idea of integrating visual images with words. Giving
students the chance to demonstrate their own writing with images will help them
to focus more in their writing and improve it.
It is also the first time I heard of such term "envisionment" which refers to the ability to use technology for a purpose other than its intended purpose.

I have never thought of asking students to use slide presentation in
writing but after I read this article I am going to ask students to present to
their classmates about the information they gathered about their topics before
writing their ideas down.
Regarding the educational standards objectives for the
English language subject in Oman
are represented in the list below. Since I am teaching students in secondary
stage in my school, I will only provide you with the aims of the text book
"Our world through English" for secondary stage in Oman semester
one & two.
The value, the role and the use of technology
Information
and communications technology (ICT) is
often used as an extended synonym for information technology
(IT), but is a more specific term that stresses the role of unified communications[1] and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers as well as
necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems, which enable
users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information.[2]
The term ICT
is also used to refer to the convergence of
audio-visual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system.
There are large economic incentives (huge cost savings due to elimination of
the telephone network) to merge the telephone network with the computer network
system using a single unified system of cabling, signal distribution and
management. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
The value, the role and the use of technology
in the classrooms
Why should teachers employ technology in their classrooms?
There are many reasons why teachers should use
technology in their classes. Here are some reasons from my own respective about
the value and the role of technology inside classrooms:
1- It
increases students' motivation. Integrating technology
will increase their chances to interact with their classmates and other
students from different part of the world.
2- It helps the
teachers prepare students for the real world environment
3- It is attractive and can capture students'
attention. Students
will be excited about being able to use technology.
4- It is a great way
to reach diversity in learning styles.
5- It can foster an increase in the quantity
and quality of students' thinking
6-
It changes the classroom routine for teachers and students
7-
It consists a lot of attractive features like moving pictures, videos and so on
8-
Technological tools are easy to use with the appropriate training
why is technology important?
